Highlife Games ("we", "us") operates an interactive quiz game platform at highlifegames.co.uk. We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

2. Data We Collect

Players: Display name, email address, postcode, age range, chosen avatar, and gameplay data (HECU balance, assets, referrals).

Advertisers: Company name, contact name, email, telephone, website, CRN, and proof of business address document.

Waiting list: Email address only.

Contact form: Name, email, and message.

3. How We Use Your Data

To create and manage your account
To verify advertiser identity and approve accounts
To send confirmation codes and account-related emails
To match players with relevant sponsored questions by postcode and age
To display adverts from advertisers in your area
To notify waiting list subscribers when the game launches
To respond to contact form enquiries

4. Legal Basis

We process your data under the following legal bases: (a) contract — to provide the game service you signed up for, (b) consent — for marketing emails and waiting list notifications, (c) legitimate interest — to prevent fraud and abuse.

5. Data Storage

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (a PostgreSQL-based platform) hosted in the EU. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plain text. Proof of address documents are stored in a private, access-controlled storage bucket.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. We share data only with: (a) our hosting provider (Supabase), (b) our email service for sending confirmation codes, and (c) authorities if legally required. Advertisers can see aggregate, anonymised engagement data for their adverts only.

7. Cookies

We use essential cookies for session management (keeping you logged in). We also use a cookie consent banner. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising cookies.

8. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to: (a) access your data, (b) rectify inaccurate data, (c) erase your account and data, (d) restrict processing, (e) data portability, (f) object to processing. To exercise these rights, contact us via the contact form.

9. Children's Privacy

Highlife Games is open to players aged 14+. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 14. If we become aware that a child under 14 has registered, we will delete their account.

10. Data Retention

We retain account data for as long as your account is active. Waiting list emails are retained until you unsubscribe or we launch. Contact form submissions are retained for 12 months. Proof of address documents are retained for the duration of the advertiser relationship plus 6 years for tax compliance.

11. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including bcrypt password hashing, Row Level Security on our database, and encrypted storage for documents. However, no system is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. We will notify registered users by email of any significant changes.
